A ring spun around the body, hands, or in the air. Hoopdance combines dance, isolations, and tricks into a flowing movement practice.

Modern flow hoops are lighter and smaller than fitness hoops — made from polypro or HDPE tubing for off-body tricks. LED and fire variants exist for performance.

Getting started

Start with a larger, heavier hoop for on-body moves. Move to a lighter polypro when you're ready for off-body tricks like tosses, isolations, and wedges.

DIY — Make your own hoop

Dance hoop (20 min, ~10 EUR)

Materials: polypro or HDPE tubing (20mm OD), inner connector (dowel or barb fitting), pop rivet or gaffer tape, grip tape

  1. Calculate tubing length: desired diameter x 3.14 (e.g. 90cm hoop = 283cm tubing)
  2. Cut tubing with a pipe cutter — make a clean, straight cut
  3. Heat one end with a heat gun, push the inner connector halfway in
  4. Curve the tubing into a circle, heat the other end and push onto the connector
  5. Secure the join with a pop rivet or strong gaffer tape
  6. Wrap with grip tape for on-body moves, or sand the inside for bare polypro

Sizing: Beginners: 90-100cm diameter (heavier HDPE). Dance/off-body: 70-85cm (lighter polypro).
