Body Tracing
TechniqueBody tracers are patterns where the poi follows the contours of your body rather than making standard circular paths. Instead of swinging through the center line, the poi drops over a shoulder or pops up from under an armpit.
The snake
A combination of body tracers and split-time reels alternating front and back. The poi alternates between front and back body tracers in split-time, creating a serpentine visual along the torso.
How to learn
- Start from a 2-beat weave — body tracers are modified 2-beat patterns
- Instead of swinging straight down, let the poi arc over your shoulder on the downswing
- Pop the poi up from under your armpit on the upswing
- The poi should appear to hug your body's outline
Applies to
Poi (primary), staff, rope dart, fans.
