Weave

Terminology

A fundamental poi pattern where the poi cross in front of and behind the body alternately.

  • 3-beat weave — the most common pattern. Each poi makes 3 beats (one in front, one to the side, one behind) per cycle. The first trick most poi spinners learn after the butterfly.
  • 5-beat weave — wider crossing pattern with more beats per cycle
  • Reverse weave — same pattern, opposite direction

The weave teaches timing, plane control, and hand independence — skills that transfer to every other poi pattern.
